MARÍA PAULINA RIVEROS DUEÑAS

Co-founding partner of Riveros Bazzani Abogados. Riveros Dueñas is a lawyer from the Externado University of Colombia with Master's degree in Insurance Law from the Javeriana University, as well as conciliator from the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá.

During her long career she has dedicated a large part of his time to public service, highlighting his work on issues related to Criminal law, transitional justice and peace processes in Colombia, the International Humanitarian Law and the International Law of Human Rights.

She served as Deputy Attorney General from 2016 to 2019, leading the most important investigation strategies in the implementation of the Peace Agreement with FARC-EP. She also participated in the dismantling of major organized crime cartels and anti-corruption groups.

Riveros Dueñas was also appointed by former President Juan Manuel Santos as the first female Plenipotentiary of the National Government at the Peace Negotiation Table between the National Government and the FARC-EP guerrilla in 2013, that ended with the signing of the Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace.

Her work in the peace process earned her the Hillary Rodham Clinton Award by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, as well as the Colonel Guillermo Fergusson Order of Merit award awarded by the President of the Republic of Colombia. As Director of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior, and later as Vice Minister of that office, she designed and implemented the Personal Protection programs, creating the National State Protection Unit.
